Dr. Douglas Peterson Delivers Successful Lecture at Harvard

Dr. Douglas Peterson Lectures at Harvard for a One-day Session in Oral Medicine

On May 1st, 2019, the Division of Oral Medicine and Dentistry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital hosted the 2019 Stephen T. Sonis Lectureship in Oral Medicine (organizers: Nathaniel Treister, DMD, DMSc and Alessandro Villa, DDS, PhD, MPH). The purpose of the Stephen T. Sonis Lectureship in Oral Medicine is to highlight the importance of the oral cavity and its associated structures in disease and in health and to promote collaboration between oral health care specialists and physicians. The 2019 visiting professor was Douglas Peterson DMD, PhD, FDS RCSEd, Professor of Oral Medicine at the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Peterson delivered the talk "Capitalizing upon Opportunities in Interprofessional Cancer Care: Integration with Oral Medicine."

The event was highly successful with nearly 40 attendees including students and residents, nurses, dentists, dental hygienists, and physicians.  Dr. Peterson also met with students and residents for an afternoon session at Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) for a round table on the state of dental specialties in the United States. Additional speakers included John DaSilva, DMD, ScM (Vice Dean at HSDM – oral implantology) and Jeffrey Shaefer, DDS (Massachusetts General Hospital - Orofacial Pain).
