Arnold Caplan, PhD
Case Western Reserve University

Arnold I. Caplan, Professor of Biology and Director of the Skeletal Research Center at Case Western Reserve University. He received his Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Caplan is a national and international scholar focusing on experimentation in the area of musculoskeletal and skin development. He has published over 400 papers and manuscripts and has long been supported by the NIH and other non-profit and for-profit agencies for his efforts in trying to understand the development, maturation and aging of cartilage, bone, skin and other mesenchymal tissues and for his pioneering research on Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

Arwa Farag, BDS, DMSc
King Abdull Aziz University and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine

Dr. Arwa Farag is an assistant professor at the Department of Oral Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry in King Abdull Aziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and an assistant professor at the Division of Oral Medicine, Department of Diagnostic Sciences, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM). She completed her residency training in oral medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and earned her Doctorate of Medical Science Degree (DMSc) from Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She also completed her fellowship in TMD/orofacial pain at TUSDM. Dr. Farag is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. She is also a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeon of Edinburgh. Dr. Farag has a clinical and research interest in early detection of oral cancer, management of oral manifestation of systemic disease, and treatment of chronic orofacial pain cases.

Kentaro Ikeda, DDS, MPH
University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine and University of Colorado School of Medicine

Dr. Ikeda is an assistant professor at the Department of Diagnostic and Biological Sciences at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine and at the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine. He received his DDS from Tokyo Dental College, his Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the Kanagawa Children’s Medical Center, his Certificates in GPR and Oral Medicine from the Carolinas Medical Center, and his Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Ikeda is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral Medicine and holds Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons at Edinburgh. He maintains an Oral Medicine practice at the University of Colorado. His clinical and research interests are the management of oral mucosal diseases, orofacial pain, pediatric Oral Medicine, oral manifestations of systemic diseases, drug-induced oral complications, and oral care for oncology patients.


Jennifer Kriegler, MD
Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (CCLCM) and Case Western Reserve University

Jennifer S. Kriegler, MD is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Neurology) at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine (CCLCM) and Case Western Reserve University. She is board certified in Neurology and Headache Medicine and is the Headache Medicine Fellowship Director at Cleveland Clinic, the Neurology Clerkship Director at Cleveland Clinic and is a CCLCM Physician Advisor. Dr. Kriegler received her medical degree from The State University of New York at Buffalo in 1976, completed her Neurology residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland from 1977-1980, and fellowship in Neuroanatomy at CWRU in 1981. Dr. Kriegler was one of the original investigators of sumatriptan, the first triptan medication specifically targeted at managing migraine headache. She participated in the CGRP Phase 2/3 trials for the prophylactic treatment of migraine. She has published numerous articles and book chapters on migraine and chronic pain syndromes. She is a nationally known headache specialist and lecturer.

Dharti Patel, DMD, ND, FDS RCS (Ed)
Dentist and Naturopathic Physician

Dr. Patel is a practicing Dentist and Naturopathic Physician. She completed her dental training at University of Pennsylvania and residency in OM/OFP at UMDNJ-University Hospital/NJ Dental School.  She obtained her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. She is a Diplomate of the ABOM and ABOP, Fellow of Dental Surgery Royal College of Surgeons (Ed) and Fellow of the International College of Oral Implantologists.  She also trained in Evidence-Based Medicine at the Forsyth Institute in Boston. Over her 17-year career path in private practice, Dr. Patel also held academic positions as an Assistant Professor at UMDNJ and NYU where she attended to postgraduate GPR, OM, OFP programs and directed the clinical pre-doctoral program in OM, OFP and Special Needs. Currently, Dr. Patel is completing her Doctoral & Master's Degrees in Oriental Medicine. She is currently practicing Integrative OFP/OM bi-coastally in Arizona and NY.

Andres Pinto, DMD, MPH, MSCE, MBA
University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center

Dr. Pinto is Chairman and Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences. He is also an attending physician in the Department of Surgery, Divisions of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Pediatric Dentistry at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, and a consultant in the VA system. He received his DMD, MPH, MSCE, certificate in Clinical Research, and certificate in Oral Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine and School of Medicine, a certificate in Dental Public Health from the National Institutes of Health, and an MBA in healthcare administration from the Weatherhead School of Management.

Kenneth Rodriguez, MD
University Hospitals of Cleveland

Kenneth Rodriguez is a skilled and accomplished ear, nose, and throat doctor based in Cleveland, Beachwood, and Westlake, OH. Dr. Rodriguez obtained his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He also completed his residency in otolaryngology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a fellowship in sinus and skull base surgery at the University of North Carolina Health Care. Dr. Rodriguez is a part of UHMG Otolaryngology. Dr. Rodriguez is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. Dr. Rodriguez is uncompromising in his dedication to the well-being of his patients. He is committed to giving the best care and establishing long-lasting relationships with them.

Judith Scheman, PhD
Cleveland Clinic Learner College of Medicine of the Case Western Reserve University

Dr. Scheman is the Director of Behavioral Medicine Cleveland Clinic Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute and a member of CCF staff since July, 1995. Prior to her present position she was the Director of Psychology, Research and Education and Director of the Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program, and held a joint appointment in the Center for Spine Health. She is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Learner College of Medicine of the Case Western Reserve University. She is a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, is the first non-MD to hold a position on the board, and is co-chair of the Pain Psychology task force and co-founder and co-chair of the Pain Psychology Special Interest Group and serves on the Membership Committee.

She received her BS in Psychology from the University of Washington, M.A. and Ph.D. from Kent State University in Clinical Psychology and Behavioral Medicine.

Hong Shen, MD
Avon and Lorain Family Health Center

Hong Shen, MD, is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. She joined Pain Management Department at Cleveland Clinic in 2002. She is currently practicing Pain Management at Avon and Lorain Family Health Centers. Dr. Shen received training in acupuncture through HELMS Medical Institute, Zhu’s Scalp Acupuncture Research and Education Foundation, and Integrative Systemic Dry Needling for Pain Management. She has incorporated acupuncture in pain management practice for more than 15 years.

Dr. Shen earned her medical degree from Suzhou Medical College in Suzhou, China. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio, and her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Eric Stoopler, DMD, FDSRCS, FDSRCPS
University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine

Dr. Stoopler is a Professor of Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Stoopler holds Fellowship in The American Association of Hospital Dentists, The International College of Dentists, The Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh, England), The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow) and is a Diplomate of The American Board of Oral Medicine and The American Board of Special Care Dentistry. Currently, he maintains an active clinical oral medicine practice at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and is a Consultant to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Stoopler is the Immediate Past President of The American Academy of Oral Medicine. Dr. Stoopler has published over 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts, scientific abstracts, books, book chapters, monographs, expert viewpoints and web-based educational materials on various topics related to oral medicine.

Ali Zakir Syed, BDS, MS
Case Western Reserve University

Dr. Syed is Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences and Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist at the CWRU School of Dental Medicine, and provides radiographic readings and interpretations for 2D and 3D (CBCT) imaging. In addition to providing reports to the school, his services are available for the community at large. Dr. Syed earned his dental degree from A.E.C.S Maaruthi Dental College and Research Centre, Bangalore University, India and taught general dentistry to medical students for a brief stint at C.M.S Teaching Hospital in Bharatpur, Nepal.

Denée Trosterud, PT
UH Samaritan Rehab in Ashland

Denée Trosterud, PT is a native of Ashland, Ohio. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 2011, and then pursued and completed the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Mercer University, graduating with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2014. She received her certification in Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling in the spring of 2016 and enjoys incorporating many different skills into the treatment of her patients including Dry Needling, Kinesiotaping techniques and various types of Myofascial Release. She has experience in many Physical Therapy fields including: Acute Care, Outpatient Orthopedics, Outpatient Pediatrics, Pediatric Aquatic Therapy, and some experience at a Skilled Nursing Facility. She has worked at UH Samaritan Rehab in Ashland since January 2018 and has enjoyed treating a variety of patients, including a large number of patients with Cervical and TMJ involvement.
