Douglas Peterson, DMD, Ph.D, FDS RCSEd

Dr. Peterson received his DMD, Ph.D, and oral medicine residency education from the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently professor and head of oral medicine at the School of Dental Medicine and co-chair of the in head & neck cancer/oral oncology program at the Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, Farmington, Connecticut. He has authored over 170 peer reviewed publications and has edited two textbooks directed to head and neck complications in cancer patients. Dr. Peterson is a Diplomate and vice president of the American Board of Oral Medicine. He is a World Workshop on Oral Medicine Steering Committee member as well as a board member of the European Association of Oral Medicine. Dr. Peterson is a special government employee for the United States Food and Drug Administration, and is co-chair of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Supportive Care Guideline Advisory Group as well as a member of ASCO's Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee. Dr. Peterson has been a frequent presenter for CancerCare for many years, and received CancerCare’s Physician-of-The-Year award in 2006. Dr. Peterson was awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery without Examination, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2011, as well as the inaugural Distinguished Service Award from the International Society of Oral Oncology in 2016.
