Antibiotics in dentistry
Unnecessary use of antibiotics potentially contributes to the development of resistant bacterial strains, disruption of important gastrointestinal microbial immune responses and unnecessary financial burdens.
Learning Objectives:
- Update the need for reduction in exposure to antibiotics
- Review medical conditions for which antibiotic prophylaxis is currently being recommended
- Discuss medically compromised populations potentially at risk for infections and procedures where antibiotics would be indicated
