CALL FOR ABSTRACTS: The AAOM invited individuals to submit abstracts (original investigations or case reports) for the 2010 Annual Meeting in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, April 13 - 17, 2010. The Abstracts Committee will select abstracts for poster and oral presentations; only those accepted for oral presentation will be published in the Oral surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology Journal.
ALL ABSTRACTS MUST BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY THROUGH THE SECURE LINK AT THE AAOM WEBSITE (www.aaom.com) BY 11:59 PM PST ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2009.
ABSTRACTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR CONSIDERATION AFTER THIS TIME.
The abstract review process will be completed by January 31, 2010, at which time all decisions will be sent to corresponding authors via e-mail. If accepted, authors are required to register for the meeting and be present during the scheduled poster/oral sessions.
Instructions
All abstracts are limited to a maximum of 300 words. Titles must be 10 words or less. Tables and figures are not allowed.
All submitted abstracts must be categorized as either “Original Investigation” or “Case Report”. Case reports will be eligible for poster presentation only.
For residents/fellows of Oral Medicine programs, an Original Investigation abstract may be submitted for the Lester Burket Memorial Award (resident/fellow of Oral Medicine programs only, see below).
Original Investigation Abstract Format:
a) Objectives (aims/purpose, hypotheses, and goals of the investigation)
b) Methods (brief description of experimental procedures including statistics)
c) Results (findings of statistical analysis)
d) Conclusions (one or two major conclusions, underlined, that are supported by results)
Case Report Abstract Format:
a) Background (A few sentences providing information relevant to case)
b) Case summary (chief complaint, other pertinent historical and examination data, diagnostic investigations and results (laboratory, radiographic, etc.), and therapeutic or management strategies/outcomes)
c) Conclusions (significance/relevance of case)
Lester Burket Memorial Award Instructions
The Lester Burket Memorial Award was created to honor the memory of Dr. Lester Burket and to promote basic and clinical research in oral medicine. Only residents/fellows of AAOM accredited Oral Medicine training programs are eligible, and the abstracts should represent significant thesis-level research. There are two $1,500 awards, one for basic science and the other for clinical research, and the meeting registration fee will be waived for all recipients. Each of the accredited oral medicine programs in the USA and Canada may select one candidate per category. Program directors must contact Dr. Nathaniel Treister (617-732-6570 or ntreister@partners.org) by November 15, 2009 to obtain specific criteria regarding the Lester Burket Memorial Award submission if their residents/fellows will be applying for the award.
Robert Schattner Award
The Robert Schattner Award will be awarded for the best original investigation abstract presentation by a student at the meeting. Eligible candidates include all students/residents/fellows, and judging for this award will take place during the meeting.
Case Report Awards
We are pleased to announce a new award at this year’s annual meeting. The three best case reports submitted by residents / students will receive a travel stipend and give a 10 minute case presentation during the annual meeting. Judging will be based on the quality, clarity, and clinical significance of the abstract submission.
