This session examines in-depth contemporary concepts that are critical and central to the practice of oral medicine.

1. Be able to define the terms “medical error” and “adverse events,” distinguishing between non-preventable, preventable and negligent adverse events
2. Understand the magnitude and consequences of adverse events in the United States
3. Become familiar with outcomes of model programs for dealing with medical error
