Dental management of patients on steroids and other immunosuppressive therapies

Immunosuppressant therapies to treat disease is increasing exponentially. As such, we need to understand the management considerations related to this patient population.

Learning objectives:

1. Review the rationale for steroid supplementation prior to invasive dental treatment in patients on long-term steroid therapy
2. Discuss the potential risks and need for dental treatment modifications in patients taking biological therapies
3. Provide an algorithm for risk assessment and dental treatment plan modifications in patients on immunosuppressive therapies
